Conflation

What is "conflation"?

Conflation, also known as stemming, is the process of merging different words of the same word stem in order to resume the meaning. Conflation can be achieved by deleting prefixes or suffixes and does not necessarily have to be the grammatical word stem. However, there are different methods for conflation, especially putting plural forms down to singular if they are composed regularly.
